HDHP Plans and Health Savings Account

HSA-qualified High Deductible Health Plans (HDHP) normally has lower premiums than traditional PPO health plans. With our health plans clients can choose a HSA-qualified plan with a lower premium, and may save on annual health care costs.

When you enroll in an IRS-qualified High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP), you can make tax-free contributions to a Health Savings Account (HSA), a way to save money and budget for healthcare expenses.

As long as the funds are used to pay qualified healthcare expenses, you do not pay taxes on withdrawals from a HSA account. Most HSA's pay interest and offer investment options so you can watch your money work for you, similar to the way an IRA or a 401(k) retirement plan works.

A HSA is a great way to set aside tax-free money to pay for individual or family healthcare expenses. Advantages of a HSA account include:

  • Taxable Income is reduced. You may pay no federal or state tax (state rules may vary) on the money you contribute to a HSA account.

  • Control the Money. You decide how to invest the funds.

  • Money grows tax-free. Money you put into an HSA may earn interest and capital gains without you having to pay federal and state income tax. (state rules may vary)

  • Save money for future healthcare needs. Even if you do not use any healthcare services now, your HSA funds will be there if needed for the future – even if you change jobs or retire.

  • Using the funds is easy. The banking partners we work with give you a debt card that lets you take money out of the HSA for medical expenses without claims forms.

Our plans have partnered with Chase, UMB, First Horizon, Fifth Third Bank, and others to provide HSA accounts to you. For a comparison of fees, interest rates and investment options, see the links on our partners page for details.
